Making a Smart Donation: Angie's List Member Donates $26,000 Prize to Columbus Adult Health Care Center

Columbus, OH (PRWEB) November 30, 2007 -- A Columbus, OH Angie's List member is helping a local charity in a very big way?with a very small car.

Sally Key won a snazzy, cherry-red SmartCar Fortwo Coupe - popularized in the U.S. by "The Da Vinci Code" movie but which won't be readily available in the U.S. until next year - in the Angie's List annual October Report Drive.

Rather than be one of the first in the Midwest to own one of the cars, Key looked for a way to do some good with it. A volunteer at the Heritage Day Health Centers, Key asked Angie's List to donate the car and allow the adult day care center to use the vehicle as the center point of a fundraiser for the non-profit.

"It would just be selfish of me to accept it," Key said. "I have such a blessed life that I think it would be wrong to take something like that. I've watched the folks at Heritage Day operate on such limited funds for 10 years. They really make a dollar go very far so I know they will make the most out of this gift."

Angie Hicks, founder of Angie's List, transported the car from the company's headquarters in Indianapolis to Columbus, where the company was founded in 1995.

"We couldn't be more thrilled with Sally's decision," said Hicks. "Sally never hesitated: she knew she wanted to do something more with the prize and we're honored to have this small part in helping Heritage continue its service to the Columbus community."

The SmartCar will be presented to Heritage Day Health Centers on Tuesday, December 4 at noon at its newest location at 1700 E. Dublin Granville Road, Columbus, Ohio, 43229.

"We are so excited to receive this unexpected gift thanks to Ms. Key, who has already given so much time and energy to us through her volunteer work," said Erica Drewry, Heritage Day's executive director. "I had just recently heard that Angie's List was adding elder care to their list of services so I think that it is a great coincidence that our organization would be the recipient of their give away. While we would love to keep this amazing vehicle, we think that a better way to further our mission in the community is by using it as a fundraising 'vehicle.'"

Heritage Day is planning to hold a limited raffle for the Smart Car and will soon share details of the raffle with the community. For more information, interested parties can contact Heritage Day Health Centers at 614-236-0586.
